Taylor Wimpey supports learners at West Scotland College

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has partnered with West Scotland College to support its Level 5 Foundation Apprenticeship in Construction.

Along with regular college visits by a team from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, there are on-site visits to bring the student’s learning to life. The aim is to inspire future young talent to consider the housebuilding industry as well as provide lecturers with support around the skills and quality that Taylor Wimpey West Scotland needs apprentices to deliver on its sites.

As part of this year’s course, the eight students have been set a challenge to design, build, and install new health and safety signage at two of Taylor Wimpey’s developments in the west of Scotland. Their recent visit to Maidenhill in East Renfrewshire was an opportunity to see where the new signage will be situated and to see first-hand how Taylor Wimpey’s on-site construction team works across each of the trades to deliver high-quality new homes for customers.

David Hunter, trade development manager for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be forging this new relationship with West Scotland College to support the learning and development of our young people across Renfrewshire. We are also enjoying the opportunity to work directly with both students and their lecturers to update them on the standards of work and skillset that we are looking for within our business.

“To bring the course to life, we’ve set the students a challenge to design and build new signage that will be used within our construction sites. It’s been set in line with their academic year, and they are making good progress. We are looking forward to seeing the finished product in May next year.

“We are proud to be creating a range of positive opportunities for our young talent to engage with our industry as we continue to nurture the next generation of talent into the business.”

Gary Hunter, construction lecturer from West Scotland College, added: “We are excited to have the support and expertise of the team at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland informing our Level 5 which helps to showcase the many opportunities available to our young people. It is through these great partnerships that we can build a strong, skilled workforce and inspire the next generation.”

Taylor Wimpey has gained industry recognition and awards from The Job Crowd Top Company and Glassdoor. It also holds the Investors in Young People Gold Accreditation.
