As part of its commitment to local authorities across Scotland to do what it can to tackle the litter emergency that faces every community every day, volunteers from Taylor Wimpey rolled up their sleeves to support Fife Council to litter-pick recently in two areas – Pilgrims Way in Cairneyhill and Bellyeoman Park in Dunfermline.

Seven members of Taylor Wimpey’s team spent an afternoon litter picking which resulted in 14 bags of rubbish across the two locations that were chosen by Fife Council.

Andrew Roberts, Taylor Wimpey Strategic Land Regional Director for Scotland said: “As part of our ongoing conversations with local authorities across Scotland about how we build responsibly, provide developments with a range of sustainable features and take care of the environment, we are aware of the local challenges they face with litter.

“In fact, there is a declared litter emergency in Scotland, and sadly data in the annual Keep Scotland Beautiful Scottish Litter Survey* points to it worsening. Despite this, we know that tackling litter will lead to important, positive impacts on efforts to combat climate change and halt biodiversity loss too. We want to do a little bit now so that we can bring renewed positivity to reverse the trends and tackle littering behaviour.

“In real practical terms, our immediate way of helping is that we are planning litter picks across Scotland, and we’re delighted to have completed our first one on behalf of Fife Council. We are looking forward to arranging further litter picks as our conversations continue with other local authorities.”

News of Taylor Wimpey’s latest staff volunteering efforts also comes as National Volunteers’ Week gets into full swing between 1st-7th June 2023, which is an annual celebration of the contribution that millions of people make across the UK through volunteering in their communities.
