Wellwood Leslie submits plans to convert Dundee mill into homes

Only the street frontage survives on the building

Wellwood Leslie has submitted plans to Dundee City Council to convert a former textile mill in the Hilltown area of the city into a residential development.

The firm proposes adjusting the internal layout of all floors to accommodate five apartments within the former Hilltown Works, a former textile mill of which only the street frontage survives.

The building has been exposed to vegetation growth and general decay arising from water damage, although it remains structurally sound, Urban Realm reports.

In a statement, the architects wrote: “With this building being one of the last physical remnants of the former textile industry within Hilltown we believe. Leaving the front facade unaltered pays homage to our perceived historical importance of Hillside Works.”

A lack of amenity space afforded by the constrained nature of the site will be aided by a rear balcony or terrace for each apartment.
