Primary four and five classes enjoyed the interactive session which covered the history of building homes as well as showcasing the variety of fantastic and varied career opportunities within the industry, but there was also a stark warning about the dangers of going into construction areas unsupervised.

Jordan Hughes, site manager at Cornhill Village and Nicki Elliot, marketing coordinator at Cala Homes (West), visited the Hamilton school pupils to discuss how Cala keeps its nearby Cornhill Village development safe and highlighted some of the hidden dangers that can be found on building sites.

The initiative is a core part of Cala Homes West’s Community Pledge, showcasing the housebuilder’s commitment to bring meaningful investment to its local communities.

Jordan Hughes said: “The Stay Safe, Stay Away programme is designed to spread the message to children that construction sites are not somewhere to play around. As responsible homebuilders we have created a programme that lets children and young people know that the message is serious but is presented in a way that’s easy for them to digest.”

Nicki Elliot added: “Another aim of this initiative is to bring to life at grassroots level how new homes are developed and the important role that housebuilders play in creating sustainable new communities. It was great to see the children engaged with the presentation, they especially enjoyed the interactive part of the lesson where they could try on different types of PPE which we use on site.”
