Details: The proposed works comprise the conservation and repair works to the ironwork and gates at South Approach to the Palace of Holyroodhouse Forecourt and to the length of decorative railing to Lord Napier’s House at the Mews Buildings. These two areas are to be considered and costed separately with a view to being undertaken as one project.

The pass gates either side of the vehicle are binding at the head to overthrows, the locking plates are clearly out of alignment and it is longer advisable to open these gates. Ground settlement over time at the east and west masonry piers has caused this distortion. Condition survey report carried out in February 2017 has highlighted this issue and considerable metal corrosion requiring repair and conservation.

Details: The main scope of works comprise the structural and fabric repairs to the external façade of two 14 storey tower blocks. Works include cleaning masonry; items of minor structural repairs; render/roughcast repairs; waterproof over coating and sealant works; the uplifting of the existing flat roof coverings and associated insulation to the main and ancillary roof areas and relaying with a new liquid applied waterproofing system and replacement of roof drainage; the renewal of existing roof mounted mechanical ventilation plant and associated switchgear.
