Ladies of the Rock Community Larder has been given a major boost after landing a £5,000 donation from Persimmon.

Ladies of the Rock is a voluntary group that raises funds to support local people experiencing food poverty. The Community Larder provides food, toiletries, pet food and pre-loved clothing to people in need. They also collect surplus food and donations from local businesses, churches and other organisations and work with local schools to identify families who might be struggling to put food on the table.

Based at Bannockburn Community Centre, the Community Larder is open each Wednesday from 9.00-11.45 for deliveries and donations and 19.00-20.00 for local families to pick-up supplies. There is also a donation point at the local Scotmid store.

Persimmon’s £5,000 donation is being delivered through their Community Champions scheme, which supports good causes in areas where the company builds new homes. The scheme has seen over £1.5m donated to local charities, clubs and organisations across the UK since 2021.

Persimmon’s senior land manager Neil Martin was joined by deputy council leader Margaret Brisley to present a cheque to Ladies of the Rock volunteers.

Chair of Ladies of the Rock, Dorothy Morrow, said: “Food prices are having a big impact on many families’ ability to put food on the table and we’ve seen more and more people relying on the support of the Community Larder in recent months.

“We’re grateful to Persimmon for this donation, which will help ensure we’re able to continue supporting local families in need.”

Persimmon East Scotland managing director Neil Parry said: “The volunteers at Ladies of the Rock deserve huge credit for the work they do to support local people in need and I’m delighted we’re able to help them with this donation.

“Our Community Champions scheme is a demonstration of our commitment to supporting the communities we operate in and I look forward to continuing to support local projects in the future.”
