BT headquarters heading towards completion in Dundee

Kilmac has completed the first phase of works for Ogilvie Construction at the new BT headquarters in the Greenmarket area of Dundee.

Describing the site as “complicated”, Kilmac said it had to carefully plan out a sequence of works due to limited space, a 4-metre difference in level between the two buildings and other trades working around the site.

The main element of works saw a 4m height in situ concrete retaining wall installed. Due to the specification of waterproof concrete, this had to be planned out in pours so as not to exceed 12m length at a time. Works seen the formwork erected and the concrete installed via tower crane and skip. The programme was critical for these works as the wall installation was key to the waterproofing installation and backfill for the floor slab preparation works.

Other works in this Phase saw Kilmac install 600m3 of concrete foundations. The pads were planned out in zones to allow continuity of works for the pile cropping, reinforcement installation and associated concrete installation.

Care had to be taken throughout with forward planning as it was critical Kilmac completed each zone’s works in full before the steel was erected as this saw all access basically closed off.

Kilmac is back on site in Autumn to carry out its Phase 2 works which are predominantly hard landscaping works to the external paths around the building. These are expected to take 6-8 weeks to complete.
