Dr Gavin Dunn has been appointed at the new chief executive officer at the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE), formally taking over the position in April 2018 when the current CEO, Dr John Hooper, retires.

Gavin has been a member of CABE since 1999 and was appointed to the board in 2014. He is currently an executive director at BRE where he is responsible for the global operation and strategic development of the organisation’s Building Performance business. He will be stepping down from this role, but will maintain his positions on the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) for the UK government and the European board of GRESB, a Dutch company that assesses the ESG performance of real estate assets and investments worldwide.

Formed in 1925 as the Incorporated Association of Architects and Surveyors, the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) is a leading body for professionals specialising in the design, construction, evaluation and maintenance of buildings. Its members practise across the UK, mainland Europe and around the world, and work in both the private and public sectors. The CABE provides the prime qualification of Building Engineer, a title that accurately reflects the professional expertise of members.

Gavin’s role will see him develop the position at CABE by raising the profile of the Association, with a view to increasing its influence with industry and Government in order to have an impact on policy and standards. He will also be responsible for promoting the unique role its members have in creating better buildings and safer and healthier communities to improve the environment and economy and further its international reach.

“Throughout my career I have been committed to raising building standards by helping create effective regulations and driving change,” said Gavin. “I believe that CABE is uniquely placed to play a significant role in creating a better built environment as it remains interdisciplinary and fundamentally technical in its focus on the built environment.”

“I am delighted to take up the role of CEO at CABE and would like to thank John for all of the hard work and dedication he has put in over the years to build such a reputable and highly-regarded organisation. I’m looking forward to working with our UK regions and international chapters to further our reach, influence and membership over the coming months and year.”
