Cairn Housing Association breaks ground on 19 new homes in East Whitburn

Cairn Housing Association has broken ground on a new housing development at Hens Nest Road, East Whitburn, West Lothian, in partnership with Ogilvie Homes.

This marks the first collaboration between the two organisations.

The development will deliver 19 high-quality, energy-efficient homes for social rent, with a mix of terraced and semi-detached properties, including two specially designed accessible amenity houses for people with mobility needs. The homes will range from two to four bedrooms, providing much-needed housing options for local families.

Each home will feature air source heat pumps, providing modern, energy-efficient heating to help reduce tenants’ energy bills and lower carbon emissions.

The project is supported by funding from the Scottish Government via the Allia Charitable Bond donation, with Brown and Wallace appointed as employer’s agent and C~urb as clerk of works. Completion is expected in late 2026.

Audrey Simpson, chief executive of Cairn Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to be working with Ogilvie Homes for the first time on this exciting development in East Whitburn. These new homes will provide much-needed, energy-efficient housing for families and individuals in West Lothian, including accessible homes for those with mobility needs. At Cairn, we are committed to creating sustainable communities, and this project is an important step towards that goal.”

Julie Leece, land director of Ogilvie Homes, added: “We are very pleased to be working in partnership with Cairn Housing Association, for the first time, on this project. Ogilvie Homes are providing much-needed, high quality, affordable new homes that are not only safe and secure, but are highly energy efficient.  As always, our site team will engage with nearby residents to keep them advised of progress of construction work and ensure minimum disruption throughout the development.”
