Cala donates furniture to social enterprise Magpie

Cala has donated furniture from former showhomes across Aberdeen to local social enterprise, Magpie.

Aberdeenshire-based social enterprise Magpie is set to find new homes for furniture previously on display at spectacular showhomes across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

The donation comprises a range of high-quality furniture and home accessories previously used to decorate Cala Homes’ (North) showhomes, ranging from sofas to beds, and bookcases to tables.

The housebuilder has partnered with Magpie to ensure the furniture can be given a second life supporting the local community, as well as through the gifting partnership which works with families in crisis.

Nicola Lawson, sales administrator for Cala Homes (North), said: “A safe, comfortable and welcoming place to call home is so important, and we hope these items will make a real difference to those across Banchory who receive them.

“Magpie is a wonderful social enterprise which helps to divert furniture and clothing from landfill and acts as a local community reuse hub. We are pleased to have the opportunity to support such a fantastic organisation which is on the doorstep of our Raemoir Park development in Banchory.”

Magpie sells second-hand furniture and household goods but also works directly with stakeholders including Aberdeenshire Council’s Social Work office, Housing team, Osprey Housing, Grampian Women’s Aid to support individuals and families in need to set up home and get back on their feet.

Marie-Anne Brown, manager at Magpie, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Cala Homes for this generous donation. Furniture and household items can make a huge difference to people who are starting over or struggling to afford the basics.

“This support will allow us to help more people in our local area, while also preventing perfectly good furniture from going to waste.”
