The organisation, known for its soup kitchen at George Square, also provides foodbank parcels to homeless and vulnerable people, as well as essentials such as toiletries, clothing and certain home necessities like quilts, towels and kitchenware.

The soup kitchen runs three times a week – every Monday, Wednesday and Friday – feeding up to 150 people each night.

Cala Homes (West), which has two Glasgow-based developments, Jordanhill Park and Prince’s Quay, invited entries for the Community Bursary scheme last year, providing organisations, charities and community groups in the Glasgow area the opportunity to apply for a share of £5,000 to help fund local projects.

Kindness Homeless Street Team was chosen as one of the recipients, with money going towards the running costs of the soup kitchen and its food pantry, as well as training for volunteers.

Across the UK, CALA’s Community Bursary initiative has awarded over £100,000 since last year to good causes, bringing the total donated to more than £400,000 since the initiative was launched in 2016.

Laura McSorley, founder of Kindness Homeless Street Team, said: “We are delighted that we were successful in our application to Cala’s Community Bursary, with the funding helping us to provide our services to those in need across Glasgow and beyond.

“Anyone in need is welcome at our soup kitchen and we work on a non-referral basis for our foodbank to ensure we can provide help to as many people as possible. With the cost of living rising again, we predict an increase in users which is why every donation helps, and this funding from Cala assists us in continuing to do the work we love.”

Emma McBride, sales consultant at Jordanhill Park, visited the charity. She added: “It was an honour to meet Laura and the team, and to learn first-hand more about the great work they’re doing. We’re thrilled to be supporting the work of Kindness Homeless Street Team – it provides such an invaluable service to the community in Glasgow and does so much to help those in need.

The charity is collecting Easter eggs ahead of 16 April, donations can be dropped into its base at London Road, or to donate funds, visit the website.
