Charity cash hits new heights for roof tile firm

Four local charities have benefited from £18,800 of donations from Lochmaben manufacturer Russell Roof Tiles as part of the firm’s diamond jubilee year.

The charities are Veterans Gardens Dumfries, Sports Driving Unlimited, D&G Canine Rescue Centre and Lockerbie Wildlife Trust, which each received £4,701.

The donations are part of the firm’s community fund called Give4Good, which supports local and international organisations chosen by its staff.

Russell Roof Tiles was originally founded as the Annandale Tile Company in 1965, with the purchase of an 11-acre site close to Lochmaben (in Halleaths). Now the company is a pioneering manufacturer with three sites and produces thousands of roof tiles and accessories used across the UK.

Give4Good was launched in 2022 as a way of supporting local initiatives with fun and challenging events championed by its staff, suppliers, customers and partners.  Fundraising events have included the firm’s Annual Big Quiz, local golf day at Lochmaben Golf Club, and triathlon, with staff also supporting the programme through Give as you Earn, as well as taking part in events and challenges.

Managing director Andrew Hayward said: “It’s an important part of our company values that we support our local communities, recognising those who make a real difference to people’s lives. It’s fitting that in our diamond jubilee year; we boosted this support even further.”

Across its whole portfolio, the firm continues to invest in modernising and futureproofing its facilities - boosting capacity, production speeds, and manufacturing efficiency. The company, already a major producer of concrete roof tiles and accessories, has also launched a new product Bute3®, which combines the look of traditional plain tiles with the efficiency of a modern interlocking design, a result of five years and £2 million in product development.

Jim Rae (Eskrigg Reserve Manager) said: “On behalf of Lockerbie Wildlife Trust, I would like to say how much we appreciate the support of the staff at Russell Roof Tiles. Their financial backing helps us to take forward our work at Eskrigg Nature Reserve and maintain a greatly appreciated resource for the local community.”

Andrew Hayward added: “I am incredibly proud to lead a dedicated team that consistently innovates and outperforms expectations. As we mark our 60th anniversary, we remain focused on transforming our operations, improving manufacturing efficiency and delivering better, more sustainable products. We are looking forward to another decade, and beyond to continued growth and success.”
