Construction of new homes at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland’s Lauder Grove development in Ratho Station is now well underway.

As part of its recent health and safety talk to Hillwood Primary, Taylor Wimpey East Scotland set the children a challenge to design a health and safety poster that would remind the local community of the dangers associated with playing near any construction site.

Prizes for the top three designs were awarded as follows: 1st place - Niamh (P4); 2nd - Max (P6) and in 3rd place Lily (P7).

The standard of entries was so impressive that a further six designs were selected to be included within the banners to be displayed at the development and the children each won a £10 national book voucher.

Being proactive and working with local schools is important as Deryck Schendel, regional health and safety advisor for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland said: “Health and safety in and around our construction areas is so important to Taylor Wimpey. As a follow-up activity to our in-school health and safety presentation, our poster challenge is a great way for children to demonstrate what they learned during our visit.”

Carol Morwood, head teacher at Hillwood Primary School, added: “Following the health and safety presentation by Taylor Wimpey, the children were tasked with creating health and safety posters. The designs that feature on the banners for the development are colourful and striking, and we are very proud of our children’s efforts to remind the wider local community never to play near a live construction site.”
