Clark Contracts has won the Training Excellence Award at the UK wide 2017 Construction News Awards.

The company was crowned at a prestigious awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, attended by 1,100 of the UK’s leading construction contractors and their clients.

After face to face review by a panel of expert judges, Clark Contracts won in recognition of its pioneering work with Glasgow Caledonian University to develop a new Masters programme and the work of its Academy on e-learning, mentoring, supply chain initiatives and developing bespoke skills assessments for apprentices.

In the same period, the company also achieved Gold accreditation as Investors in Young People and the President’s Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The Paisley and Edinburgh based construction, refurbishment and maintenance contractor was the only company registered in Scotland to join the UK wide shortlist of 138 organisations, across 19 different categories.

Gordon Cunningham, managing director at Clark Contracts, said: “It’s the first time we have entered the highly prestigious CN Awards and so we are extremely pleased have been successful on our first attempt. It’s great recognition for the work of our Academy which is totally focused on attracting, developing and retaining the very best talent in our industry.”

Tom Fitzpatrick, editor of Construction News, said: “These awards recognise the brilliant contribution to society that this industry makes on a daily basis.

“From homes to schools and hospitals, to rail and roads and stadiums, we are proud to recognise the achievements of the companies working hard to improve the construction industry and help grow the UK economy.”
