Construction Aware youth employment initiative seeks new partners
Stakeholders from across Glasgow have come together to develop a three-year programme that helps young people gain an understanding of all of the roles involved in the construction industry.
Construction Aware is an ambitious skill and learning project co-designed with industry, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce’s DYW team and facilitated by Glasgow City Council and FARE, with thanks to funding from Wheatley Group and Land Services Registry.
It has been formed amidst the challenge faced by the construction and built environment sector with recruitment and retention of young people, and the young people themselves face the challenge of applying for roles without the requisite skills and experience to hit the ground running.
The programme engages young people from S3 through to senior phase and inspires, informs and develops their skills and experience base through a series of practical interventions, accredited training, work experience and progression to post-secondary school destinations including modern apprenticeships and graduate level posts.
Construction Aware is working with hundreds of pupils and dozens of partners to provide impactful and representative interventions, allowing for the early identification of talent and equal access to the labour market. With around 30 employers involved, the initiative is constantly looking to add to its partnership base and to seek additional resources where possible.
Any organisations and individuals who think they can help make a difference to the skills landscape of the sector across the Glasgow region and beyond are encouraged to get in touch at dyw@glasgowchamberofcommerce.com.
