Dandara gets back in the saddle to support Doddie Dasher’5

A team of East Lothian cyclists is gearing up for an even tougher test this spring, with housebuilder Dandara backing the Doddie Dasher’5 once again as they take on an 800-mile fundraising cycle in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

The challenge, known as Doddie’s Triple Crown, is the 2026 edition of Rob Wainwright’s annual endurance ride and follows the success of last year’s event, which raised more than £1 million for motor neurone disease research. This time, the riders are going even further, increasing the distance from 700 to 800 miles over four demanding days.

Taking place from Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 March, the route will see teams cycle from Melrose through England and Wales before crossing to Ireland, finishing in Dublin on the eve of Scotland’s Six Nations clash with Ireland at the Aviva Stadium.

Dandara has contributed £250 to support the Doddie Dasher’5 as they return for a second year, helping to cover the cost of the challenge and boost the team’s overall fundraising for the charity.

Jamie Dougall, one of the Doddie Dasher’5 riders, said the step up in distance makes the challenge even more daunting, but also more meaningful.

“Last year pushed us hard, so adding another 100 miles definitely ups the stakes,” he said. “There are moments when you’re tired, sore and questioning your life choices, but then you remember why you’re doing it. MND affects so many families and the work the foundation does is incredible. Knowing people and businesses back home are supporting you gives you that extra bit of motivation. We’re hugely grateful to Dandara for getting behind us again.”

Claire Bathgate, head of Sales at Dandara Scotland, said the decision to support the team again was an easy one.

“Doddie Weir meant so much to so many people, and the legacy he’s left through the foundation is something really special,” she said. “What Jamie and the team are taking on is no small feat – 800 miles in four days is huge – but it says everything about their determination and the strength of feeling behind this cause. We’re proud to play a small part in supporting them and wish them all the luck in the world for what will be an unforgettable ride.”

The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was established by the late Scotland and British & Irish Lions rugby player Doddie Weir to fund research into motor neurone disease and to provide support to those living with the condition and their families. Since its launch, the charity has committed millions of pounds towards research, clinical trials and direct support across the UK.
