Gillcon appoints Ray Singh to lead Scottish expansion

Ray Singh
Gillcon, the UK and Ireland’s retaining wall specialist behind the Lock+Load and I-CON systems, has appointed experienced civil engineer Ray Singh to lead its entry into the Scottish market.
Ray brings over 20 years’ experience in geotechnics, slope stabilisation, and soil mechanics. Based in Edinburgh, he will oversee project delivery, contractor partnerships, and preconstruction support across Scotland, working closely with Gillcon’s design and logistics teams in Yorkshire and Donegal.
“Scotland presents a unique set of challenges — from topography and weather to programme pressures,” Singh said. “Our goal is to deliver safe, buildable walls at pace while forming strong local partnerships.”
Gillcon supplies and installs three distinct retaining wall solutions, each engineered for flexibility, safety, and speed of build:
- Lock+Load – A modular, hand-placed precast system capable of tackling complex geometries. Lock+Load offers the performance of wet-cast panels with the speed and flexibility of wire-faced walls. Each unit stabilises a compacted soil block, forming a self-reinforced structure with a concrete face.
- I-CON – A patented low-height system with an integrated fencing interface. Ideal for tight urban plots and housing developments, it enables fence installation without additional foundations, maximising usable space between plots and providing long-term access where needed.
- Prime Block – A lightweight concrete block with an integrated locking mechanism and set-back design. Favoured for its ease of installation and strength, Prime is suited to everything from residential gardens to large-scale civil projects.
All Gillcon systems are backed by engineering support, value engineering advice, and durable precast components manufactured in-house.
Gillcon’s systems have been deployed on housing, healthcare, infrastructure, and logistics schemes nationwide. Recent examples include:
• NCL2 HGV Park (ISG) – Delivered 1,200m² of Lock+Load to create heavy-duty retaining walls up to 7m high. Productivity exceeded target by 20%, shaving a week off the programme.
• Estuary View (GSE) – Installed Lock+Load walls in a confined site beside the A299 to create a stable platform for a healthcare centre car park. A fully warranted design overcame poor ground and tight boundaries.
• Dewsbury MSCP (Willmott Dixon) – Integrated Lock+Load with in-situ concrete columns to meet structural and access challenges beside a live footpath.
Sustainability is built into every stage of Gillcon’s operation:
• Two wind farms in Ireland generate 28.75 MW of green electricity, offsetting the entire manufacturing power demand.
• 100% harvested rainwater is used in production.
• Moulds are made with recycled plastic, and on-site, Gillcon targets at least 70% recycled aggregate and reuses site-won materials where feasible.
• Off-site manufacturing techniques reduce waste, cut transport miles, and limit disruption to surrounding communities.

This approach allows clients to deliver carbon-conscious projects without compromising on safety, performance, or design life.
Gillcon’s expansion will be supported initially from its established English and Irish operations, with local recruitment and partnerships driving early project delivery. Plans for a dedicated Scottish office will progress in line with growing demand.
“This is a considered expansion led by the right people,” said Ciaran Gillespie, Gillcon’s managing director. “With Ray’s leadership and our existing infrastructure, we’re ready to support clients across Scotland with practical, cost-effective wall systems. The aim is simple: do the job right, and the reputation will follow.”
The company is currently tendering for multiple projects and expects to announce its first Scottish site mobilisation later this year.
Gillcon will be among the exhibitors at the upcoming Scottish Construction Summit on September 17th in Glasgow. For more information and tickets, click here.
