Persimmon Homes East Scotland has made a £3,000 donation to West Calder and Harburn Community Development Trust through its Community Champions scheme, supporting the Trust’s ambitious Discovery Centre project.

The funding will help the Trust as they progress plans for the new Discovery Centre – a community-focused facility designed to provide learning, heritage, wellbeing and social spaces for residents of West Calder, Harburn and the surrounding area.

West Calder and Harburn Community Development Trust is a volunteer-led organisation working to improve opportunities, wellbeing and quality of life for local people. The Trust is committed to developing sustainable community assets that bring people together, strengthen local identity and provide long-term social and economic benefits. The Discovery Centre project aims to create a welcoming family-friendly attraction, offering educational activities, heritage interpretation, community events and space for local groups to meet and collaborate.

The donation was made through Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme, which sees each of the housebuilder’s 29 regional businesses donate at least £6,000 every quarter to local charities, schools, and community groups.

Neil Martin, planning director at Persimmon East Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to support West Calder and Harburn Community Development Trust and their plans for the new Discovery Centre. Projects like this are central to building connected communities and providing spaces that bring people together.

“With our headquarters in West Lothian, we’ll continue investing in the local area and supporting initiatives that create lasting benefits for residents and the wider community.”

Matt Pearce from West Calder and Harburn Community Development Trust added: “This support from Persimmon is fantastic and helps us progress the final phases of the centre. The project is entirely community led and all about making our village a better place to live, visit and work in and we are happy to be working with Persimmon to achieve this.”
