Longniddry has been named Housing Development of the Year (Large Private Sale) For the Scottish Home Awards 2026.

The development in East Lothian, which has been delivered by Cruden Homes and Places for People was commended for its place-making, design and its input towards developing a new community within a key coastal area of Scotland.

The development, which is located in Longniddry, has been designed to fit well within the existing village, merging traditionally-inspired homes and modern interiors alongside green areas, travel connections and good access to nearby amenities. This includes access to East Lothian’s coastline and a direct railway connection to Edinburgh city centre.

The award comes amid ongoing demand for homes at Longniddry Village. The location has seen demand from new residents such as first-time buyers, growing families and those looking to downsize.

Hazel Davies, sales and marketing director at Cruden Homes, said: “This success is a true reflection of the aspirational vision of the landowners, Wemyss & March Estates, and the commitment that has gone into creating the development by all involved.

“From the outset, the aim was to create a place that sits naturally within the existing village while delivering high-quality homes and a strong sense of community. The response from buyers has been incredibly positive and we’re proud to see that recognised through this award.

“Longniddry Village demonstrates the value of partnership-led placemaking and what can be achieved when quality, design and long-term community creation are prioritised from the very beginning.”
