Having overseen the CIOB Scotland Awards for many years, I know just how much work, commitment and dedication goes into reaching this stage.

Every year, I am impressed by the calibre of the entries we receive and, more importantly, by the people behind them. The awards give us a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on those who are making a real difference across Scotland’s built environment.

Our finalists this year reflect the many different ways people contribute to our profession – whether through their commitment to colleagues and communities, their approach to sustainability, their achievements at the beginning of their careers, or the leadership, innovation and professionalism they demonstrate every day.

Construction is an industry built on people, and in my experience, recognising that contribution is incredibly important. The finalists this year are a fantastic reflection of the talent, ambition and dedication that exists across Scotland.

There are five categories celebrating achievement at different stages and in different areas of the profession: Extra Mile, Graduate, Rising Star, Sustainability and Team.

My congratulations go to everyone who has reached the final. Being shortlisted for a CIOB Scotland Award is an achievement and reflects the contribution these individuals and teams are making to our profession.

What I particularly enjoy about these awards is the breadth of achievement they showcase. From graduates and emerging professionals establishing themselves in the industry, to those going above and beyond for their colleagues and communities, and teams delivering innovative and sustainable projects, every finalist has a story worth celebrating.

The value of the awards goes beyond simply receiving a trophy on the night. Being recognised through the CIOB Scotland Awards can provide a real boost to an individual’s professional profile, helping to showcase their achievements, enhance their reputation and demonstrate the contribution they are making to Scotland’s construction industry.

For those at an earlier stage of their career, that recognition can be particularly valuable. Being shortlisted can help build confidence, create new connections and open doors to future opportunities. It can also provide an important platform for emerging professionals to share their experiences and inspire others considering a career in construction.

For established professionals and organisations, the awards offer an opportunity to celebrate the people and projects that are helping to move our industry forward. They bring together colleagues, industry leaders and professionals from across Scotland, creating a valuable opportunity to build relationships and celebrate success together.

This year’s finalists will come together for the CIOB Scotland Awards on 9 October 2026 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central in Glasgow. The event will take place from 1pm to 6pm, providing an opportunity for finalists, colleagues, friends, families, CIOB members and industry leaders to come together and celebrate the achievements of everyone involved.
