An 10-year old pupil from Milltimber School has won a competition to name a new sculpture, located at a new playpark at a landmark Aberdeen development.
Ebony Lorraine Taggart, who has just completed P5, suggested that the horse statue at Cala’s Oldfold Village development should be called ‘Oldfold Spirit’, after she was inspired by the history of the site, which once housed horse riding stables.
Ebony’s grandmother, Lorraine, previously owned horses at the stables so she entered the name as a tribute to all of the horses and ponies that once called the stables home alongside her gran’s.
Cala Homes (North), which installed the statue at Murtle Den Park at Oldfold Village, tasked pupils at Milltimber Primary School with suggesting a name for the sculpture and drawing their own picture of it.
The new name will be immortalised on a plaque on the statue and Ebony was also rewarded with an arts bundle with plenty of colourful pencils and pens to continue her flourishing passion for art.
Young Ebony got to visit the sculpture in person and was congratulated on her win by Ebony Rettie, Cala Homes sales advisor at Woodhurst.
Runners up were also selected from each class at the school, with the pupils also receiving some arts and craft supplies.
Steven Skinner, teacher at Milltimber School, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to show their creativity and it was great to see every class get involved. We saw so many brilliant suggestions so thank you to the Cala team for inviting us to get involved – all of the kids had such a fun time with their drawings.”
Cala recently launched the fourth phase of its Oldfold Village development, Woodhurst at Oldfold Village, which comprises a collection of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes. Oldfold Village will be a community of 550 homes upon its completion.
Samantha Leckie, Marketing Manager at Cala Homes (North), said: “We were thrilled with how many pupils took park in our competition and it was incredibly difficult to pick a winning name as so many of the suggestions were so imaginative. It was also brilliant to see such a level of fantastic talent from the artists at Milltimber School. There were some wonderful drawings.
“But, Ebony’s suggestion of Oldfold Spirit really captured our imaginations.
It’s the perfect name to celebrate the rich history of the site and the strong sense of community spirit at our Oldfold Village development.”
