Multiple former schools sites allocated for Dundee housing

Dundee City Council has allocated land belonging to 19 former schools for housing.

According to reports in the local Evening Telegraph newspaper, of the 24 schools lying vacant in the city, 19 of the sites are listed for housing, mostly in the North East, Strathmartine and Lochee council wards.

The sites were allocated under the Strategic Housing Investment Plan for 2017-2022, which aims to have around 6,000 new homes built.

Some residents’ groups have called for the council to focus on having social housing built on the former school sites.

Stella Carrington of the Charleston Tenants and Residents Association said: “I’ve supported the plans for housing but it needs to be social housing in my opinion. We already have enough private housing being built in places like the Western Gateway.”
