Neil Humphries named UK head of planning at Burns & McDonnell
Engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell has appointed Neil Humphries as head of planning, a role central to supporting the delivery of complex transmission & distribution (T&D) projects across the United Kingdom.
Neil brings 20 years of planning and project controls experience and a proven track record of strong leadership. He previously served as head of project controls at a global engineering solutions company, with responsibility for the UK Operations Portfolio, where he led multidisciplinary teams and improved performance reporting.
Neil will be based in the Glasgow office of Burns & McDonnell and will lead the planning function. He will focus on advancing industry best practices by further strengthening planning processes, managing project programmes, and working closely with commercial and engineering teams to support integrated delivery.
Burns & McDonnell said the appointment reinforces its focus on delivering high-quality T&D projects across the UK. At a time of growing demand for sustainable infrastructure delivery, with the government’s 10 Year Infrastructure Plan and Planning and Infrastructure Act, strengthening project controls is seen as representing a key foundation for the efficient delivery of critical infrastructure.
Neil Humphries said: “I’m delighted to be joining Burns & McDonnell at a time of great importance for energy infrastructure across the UK. My focus will be on seeing that the implementation of consistent planning principles continues to drive on-time delivery of critical projects in line with regulatory and client requirements.
“Beyond technical delivery, I intend to build upon the collaborative culture within the planning team to strengthen the firm’s reputation as a trusted partner across the UK.”
Jason Chandler, UK transmission & distribution managing director at Burns & McDonnell, said: “Neil brings invaluable experience in planning and project controls, particularly in leading high-performing teams and embedding best-practice delivery. His appointment strengthens our capability at a time when the industry is facing increased regulatory demands, and his leadership will play an important role in supporting our work across the UK.”
Shawn Briggs, UK operations and senior managing director at Burns & McDonnell, added: “Effective planning is foundational to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure, and Neil’s technical understanding and leadership experience will enhance our ability to meet client expectations and support the energy transition. We’re delighted to welcome him to the team.”
