New council homes handed over in Kennoway

Twenty more new council houses have been added to Fife Council’s affordable housing stock this week, marking the completion of the second phase of an ambitious development delivered in partnership with Robertson Construction Eastern on behalf of Robertson Partnership Homes.

The properties at Langside Crescent, Kennoway, form part of a wider project to provide 63 much-needed council houses on the site of the former primary school.

The first phase, completed last year, delivered 43 houses, and this latest handover brings the total to 63.

The development has been supported by grant funding of £5.255 million from the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme.

The properties include a mix of detached and semi-detached units, as well as amenity and wheelchair-accessible bungalows, all built to high energy-efficiency standards.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council’s housing spokesperson, said: “This handover is another important milestone in our commitment to tackling the housing emergency in Fife.

“These new houses will provide families and individuals with safe, warm, and energy-efficient places to live, helping to improve health and wellbeing.

“Every new council house makes a real difference to people’s lives and strengthens our communities.”

All of the properties have been constructed to energy efficient designs, with high-performance insulation and windows, and modern heating systems. Additionally, they feature PV panels and sprinkler systems.

Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme not only delivers new houses but also supports jobs and apprenticeships, boosting the local economy and the construction sector.

This development is the second of seven projects that Robertson has been contracted to deliver for Fife Council across the region, and it has had a significant long-lasting impact in the community.

An estimated 272 local people (FTE) have been employed on the contract, and over £10m has been spent with local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) - in addition to donations to local charities and schools.

Gordon Milne, regional managing director, Robertson Construction Eastern, said: “Reaching this milestone in Kennoway marks another positive step in a long-standing working relationship with Fife Council.

“As one of a number of projects being delivered together across the region, it demonstrates how a collaborative approach can support the council’s response to the housing emergency while also supporting the local economy.

“We look forward to continuing this partnership as work progresses on further developments across Fife.”
