The West Lothian community of Winchburgh, which is anticipated to grow from a population of 6,500 to 14,500 in the next ten years, has welcomed a new bridge adjacent to its canalside Marina. 

The new bridge will connect the community to Daisy Park, a planned new leisure space. In Autumn, works around the bridge will be completed, enabling prompt access from the canal towpath to the Marina as well as the new town centre.

But on the opposite side of the Marina, on the north side, plans stay in place for waterside leisure development. 

Additionally, just beyond, and bordering the arterial route Duntarvie Castle Road, a housing development proposed by Lovell would deliver 39 affordable housing units.

John Hamilton, chief executive officer of Winchburgh Developments Ltd. (WDL), which spearheads the masterplan for Winchburgh, said: “Welcoming people into the heart of Winchburgh, while also encouraging residents of our community to easily access greenspace along the Union Canal, just became much easier with the installation of this new bridge. 

“Improving access will benefit the town centre in the long-term and adds to our excellent links for those walking and wheeling in the community.”

Progress for Winchburgh continues with 1700 occupied new properties amid plans for a total of 4000 in the next ten years but Hamilton has said that the development combines a range of housing types with the delivery of amenities and infrastructure. 

Hamilton added: “Experience tells us that creating a community – especially on this scale – is not just about constructing a healthy mix of residential and business premises but ensuring that alongside the housing and shops are excellent leisure facilities, the best-equipped schools, and an environment that encourages people to strike a positive work-life balance and lead a healthy lifestyle.”
