The accreditation follows assessment of Martin’s experience in the conservation, alteration and adaptation of historic buildings, including listed townhouses, mews buildings, villas and rural buildings across Scotland.

His application drew on conservation work across a range of traditional building types and set out his approach to understanding significance, retaining and repairing historic fabric where feasible, making proportionate design decisions, and adapting buildings for continued use.

Martin said: “I’m delighted to have been awarded RIAS Accreditation in Conservation Architecture. Conservation has become an increasingly important part of our work at Ossian, and the application process was a useful opportunity to reflect on how we approach existing buildings: understanding significance, working carefully with traditional fabric, making proportionate decisions, and balancing repair, adaptation and long-term use.”

The RIAS scheme recognises architects with demonstrated competence in the conservation, repair and adaptation of the historic built environment, assessed through their professional experience and project work.

The accreditation supports Ossian Architects’ continued work with listed buildings, traditional construction and sensitive historic settings, and reflects the practice’s growing conservation expertise.
