Persimmon’s Casey Gardner wins top apprentice honour at Courier Business Awards
Casey Gardner
Persimmon Homes North Scotland apprentice Casey Gardner has been named Apprentice of the Year at this year’s Courier Business Awards.
The second-year painting and decorating apprentice from Fife impressed judges with her exceptional commitment to her trade, her eagerness to learn, and the pride she takes in every project. Casey was unanimously selected by the judging panel, who praised the quality of her work on Persimmon developments as well as her enthusiasm for opportunities to support local communities.
The glittering ceremony at Dundee’s Apex City Quay Hotel saw Casey take centre stage as the first award winner of the night — with senior figures including First Minister John Swinney among those applauding her success.
Casey has already built a strong reputation across the business, with her creative finishes helping transform Persimmon show homes across the region.
Earlier this year, she won the Scottish heat of the Painting and Decorating Association competition and helped restore the iconic Links Market horse sculpture in Kirkcaldy, bringing a much-loved local attraction back to life.
James MacKay, Persimmon North Scotland managing director, said: “We are incredibly proud of Casey and the remarkable start she has made in her career.
“She embodies everything we want to achieve through our apprenticeship programme — developing talented individuals who are passionate about building great careers and great homes in their local communities.
“This award is truly well-deserved, and we can’t wait to see what she does next.”
Reflecting on her win, Casey said: “I still can’t quite believe it! To be recognised like this so early in my career feels amazing, and I’m really grateful for all the support I’ve had from my teammates and mentors at Persimmon.
“I love what I do, and this has just made me even more excited to keep learning, keep improving, and keep doing work I’m proud of.”
Casey’s achievement reflects Persimmon’s position as the largest provider of construction apprenticeships in Scotland, offering high-quality training and well-paid career opportunities while supporting the delivery of much-needed local homes.
