A volunteer-led wellbeing project in Stewarton has received a £4,000 donation from Persimmon Homes West Scotland to support its ongoing work tackling loneliness, improving mental health, and providing practical support to local people.
Thrive in Stewarton provides free, accessible activities for around 100 people in the local area, supporting families, school leavers, unemployed people, and older residents. The project delivers a range of community services including the Stewarton Community Shed, a wellbeing café, growing project and groups for women, dads, and families of disabled children.
The initiative focuses on improving mental wellbeing, reducing isolation, and helping people affected by poverty, trauma, and mental ill-health. Many of those supported are referred through GP practices and mental health professionals, working alongside statutory services to reach those most in need.
The £4,000 donation will help support the running costs of The Shed and wellbeing café, including materials such as timber, craft supplies, and lunches for attendees. The Shed also provides opportunities for people to learn woodworking skills, share experience, and take part in community projects.
The project has already helped residents build confidence and skills, with participants contributing to local work such as the creation of the ‘Stewarton Town Sign’ and going on to further opportunities in employment and education.
Chris Logan, managing director of Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “We’re really pleased to support Thrive in Stewarton and the important work they do in the community.
“Their approach brings people together, helps reduce isolation, and provides practical support for those who need it most. Projects like this make a real difference locally, and we’re proud to play a small part in helping them continue their work.”
Pete Anderson, mission pioneer at Thrive Stewarton, said: “We are passionate about supporting the health of local people, body, mind and soul. Our grateful thanks to Persimmon for their generous donation to our work which will help more Stewarton people thrive!”
Thrive in Stewarton also raises funds through community-led initiatives, including its annual New Year’s Day polar plunge, which has helped generate additional support for its activities.
