Revised Peebles High School designs on show

Updated floor plan designs for the new Peebles High School building have been made available to view after alterations were been made to the designs following feedback received from the engagement sessions that took place in early February.

The amendments include a fully enclosed hall and performance space with a capacity for more than 340 people. The number of enclosed classrooms has also been increased.

The on-site enabling works within the school grounds are well underway with the steel frame and roof for the sports pavilion extension recently erected and work being progressed with the installation of the new 3G pitch.

Wet and wintry weather has however affected progress on these works in recent weeks but with better weather in spring these could be completed in time for the new school year in August.

Construction of the school building is scheduled to commence after all the enabling works have been completed.

Councillor Leagh Douglas, executive member for Education & Lifelong Learning, said: “Our ambition from the outset of this project has been to deliver a world-class educational facility that will meet the needs of all pupils and provide them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed for modern life.

“After carefully listening to the feedback received through the various engagement sessions held in February we have been able to address some of the concerns from within the community regarding the new school through further design changes.

“The updated designs are now available to view on our website and I would encourage anyone from the Peebles community to take a look at the changes that have been made.

“This now concludes the design phase of the project and allows us to progress towards starting construction on the main building later this year.”

The design team includes Stallan-Brand, Turner & Townsend, Atelier Ten, Woolgar Hunter and Oobe.
