Scotland to receive £19.5m from Aldi investment programme

Scotland will receive roughly £19.5 million in 2027 as part of a £900m investment programme from the supermarket chain Aldi.

Aldi will open a new store in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, as part of the investment, while its current stores in Alloa, Leven, St Andrews, Gilmerton Road, Edinburgh and Motherwell will be extended, enhancing store layout.

Aldi intends to open 40 new stores in the UK during the year, as well as continuing with investment in its distribution network.

At present, the supermarket has 1,095 stores and plans to grow to 1,500 in the UK, prioritising communities that do not have easy access to affordable groceries due to a lack of local options or competition.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We’re continuing to invest significantly across the UK as we progress towards our long-term ambition of 1,500 Aldi stores.

“These new locations are part of our £900 million investment programme for 2027 and will help us bring Aldi’s award-winning quality and unbeatable value to even more communities.”

Neale added: “We’re excited to take the next step in our expansion plans and look forward to welcoming customers through the doors of these new stores in the years ahead.”

Aldi is set to open 30 stores during the final months of this year.
