A sod-cutting ceremony celebrated the beginning of construction on Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s final homes in Bishopton, with the housebuilder and BAE Systems marking progress on the delivery of the Dargavel Village masterplan.
Attended by senior representatives from the two organisations, the event marks the beginning of work on the recently greenlit 315-home development off Arrochar Drive.
In May, Renfrewshire Council provided Approval of Matters Specified in Conditions (AMSC), prompting Taylor Wimpey West Scotland to continue with the last phase of housebuilding in the Dargavel Village community.
The final project will provide a mixture of three, four and five-bedroom homes. This includes 257 properties from Taylor Wimpey’s new national range and 58 homes from its Caledonian Collection.
All the homes will have sustainable Air Source Heat Pump technology, as well as biodiversity measures including bird bricks and hedgehog highways.
Safe and accessible footpath connections linking to the wider masterplan and access to local amenities, such as the new 45-acre Central Park and Bishopton Train Station, are also included in the plans.
David Blair, managing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “With planning approval now in place, and early preparatory works completed, we’re excited to begin full construction to deliver a well-connected, sustainable neighbourhood that enhances the local environment and supports long-term growth.
“Our partnership with BAE Systems has been central to the success of the masterplan, and today’s sod-cutting reflects the strength of that Collaboration.”
Jon Gettinby, project management, engineering, quality & Bishopton programme director for BAE Systems, said: “This milestone demonstrates the continued commitment of both organisations to delivering a community that offers high-quality housing, excellent connectivity and long-term environmental benefits.
“We look forward to seeing this final phase take shape and to completing the vision that has guided the development from the outset.”
The initial new homes for this part of the development will launch for sale in late October or early November this year.
