Winning designs aim to slow traffic in Dargavel Village

Primary 5, 6 and 7 pupils of Bishopton Primary and Dargavel Primary have completed a challenge to design a sign that could be installed near Taylor Wimpey’s new show homes off Craigton Drive in Dargavel Village to encourage drivers to slow down.

Two winning designs - created by Lucas Diver (P6) from Bishopton Primary and Olivia Sloan, (P5) from Dargavel Primary – have been recreated as signs that are now installed near the entrance to our latest phase of new homes. Each winner also won a £50 book token.

The overall standard of designs was so high that a further six posters were chosen to create a banner for our show area car park to remind drivers to keep their speed down whilst moving around the area. Each child also received a £20 book token.

Working with both primary schools to convey such an important message has been a great opportunity to connect with the growing community of Bishopton and Dargavel Village as Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, added: “We recognise the importance of making sure that we support the communities in which we build our new homes.

“It has been our pleasure to work with both local primary schools on this project and to strengthen and extend our links once again with the local community of Bishopton and Dargavel Village. This project comes at a time when 20MPH is the aspired vehicle speed resulting from our detailed layout designs, and we hope the children’s signs will serve as a reminder to drivers to maintain a safe vehicle speed.”

The children at both primary schools rose to the challenge with lots of pupils taking part.

Louise Chisholm, depute head teacher at Dargavel Primary, said: “Having the opportunity to work with Taylor Wimpey to create speed signs has been an exciting challenge but a great way to deliver a very important message.”

Catherine Davidson, depute head teacher from Bishopton Primary, added: “This is a lovely connection between our schools and the local Taylor Wimpey development at Dargavel Village. The children all really enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design and we are very proud of their efforts.”
