Taylor Wimpey West Scotland challenged the pupils in Newton Farm and Maidenhill to design signs that could be installed beside new show homes near the schools to encourage drivers to slow down.

Three winning designs - created by Pippa Lindsay (P6) from Newton Farm Primary, Leo Dunsmuir, (P5) from St Charles Primary and Mariyam Sergazy (P6) from Maidenhill Primary School – have been recreated as signs that are now installed near the entrance to its latest phases of new homes. Each winner also won a £50 book token.

The overall standard of designs was so high that more posters were chosen from each school to create a banner for Taylor Wimpey’s two show area car parks to remind drivers to keep their speed down whilst moving around the area. Each child also received a £15 book token.

Working with the primary schools to convey such an important message has been a great opportunity to connect with the growing communities of Newton Farm and Maidenhill as Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “We recognise the importance of making sure that we support the communities in which we build our new homes.

“It has been our pleasure to work with all local primary schools on this project and to strengthen and extend our links once again with the local community of Newton Farm and Maidenhill. We hope the children’s signs will serve as a reminder to drivers to drive safely in and around the development.”

Maureen Reid, head teacher at St Charles Primary, said: “Having the opportunity to work with Taylor Wimpey to create colourful road signs has been an exciting challenge but a great way to deliver a very important message.”

Catherine Meecham, head teacher from Newton Farm Primary, added: “This is a lovely connection between our schools and the local Taylor Wimpey development at Newton Farm. The children all really enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design and we are very proud of their efforts.”
