An opening ceremony has been held for a new £8.8 million school built in North Uist by infrastructure group Robertson. Sgoil Uibhist a’ Tuath is the seventh new school to open in the Western Isles in the last six years.

Lews Castle A Scottish local authority has fought off a legal challenge over its decision to award a contract as part of a landmark project to transform a redundant castle into a major visitor attraction, The Scotsman has reported.

Lews Castle Graham Construction is set to begin work on the hospitality elements of the project to transform Lews Castle in Stornoway after being awarded the £3.5 million third phase contract.

Construction work has started on the soon-to-be first commercial distillery on the Isle of Harris after fundraising for a new maturation warehouse was completed. The warehouse is being erected on a plot bought from a local crofter, with completion slated for next month.

Building work on a new £8.4 million school is to begin in April after Western Isles Council announced that Willmott Dixon in collaboration with Robertson Construction won the contract. The contract was awarded utilising the national Scape major works procurement framework.
