Cala Homes (West) site team at its Jordanhill Park development, led by project director David Sutherland, welcomed students from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) to see the housebuilding process in action.

Eighteen students from GCU visited Cala’s Jordanhill Park development, located in Glasgow’s West End, to meet with the site team to see firsthand the ongoing work at the live development.

The BSc Construction Management students course covers a wide variety of technical, financial and planning aspects in theory and practice, with industry experts providing guest lectures and students gaining practical and theoretical experience.

Cala’s David Sutherland gave the students and GCU lecturer Mike Galbraith a tour of the flagship development both on site and within properties before conducting a health and safety presentation and Q&A session.

David Sutherland, said: “We were happy to welcome the students to safely visit both the construction part of the site as well as the finished products so they can see the full life cycle. Its so important to give them the opportunity to see the practical side of the job.

“I really hope they enjoyed the visit, it’s important that we can contribute to our community in different ways and there is so much to see at Jordanhill Park.”

Lecturer Mike Galbraith added: “I just wanted to say thanks to David and his team at Jordanhill Park for hosting the first year GCU students. We all had a fantastic time, along with some great insights and discussion points from the wider Cala team.

“The walk round, in particular, was invaluable to the students to help them understand the complexity and technical needs of such a large project, especially when it comes to regenerating old buildings and building new ones.”
