Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) celebrated Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week by donating a signed Scotland international football shirt to the local community centre in Nethercraigs, Glasgow.

Abi Harrison, who recently scored the winning goal for the Scottish National Team world cup play-off against Austria, said: “I trained at this club in my youth and have fond memories of utilising the hub. It is such a great club that encourages everyone to participate.

“It’s nice to give something back to help raise the profile of girls in football and allow them follow their dream.”

Nethercraigs Sports Club development manager, Andy Elliott, said: “Pollok United are delighted to have received this memorable signed Scotland shirt from Abi and CWA, shortly after she scored the wonderful winning goal for Scotland v Austria.

“We know that Abi played multiple games as a youth here at Nethercraigs. Her experience is as an inspiration to all young girls and indeed young boys here at Pollok United who come to here every week, to play, train and dream!”

The week marked the progress seen in women’s sports to help break down harmful stereotypes which put off women from taking up new sports or progressing to a higher level.

Proud Mum Audrey Harrison, an operations support manager at CWA, was delighted to be able to present this signed world cup shirt on behalf of Abi who is on international duty supporting grassroots football.

Paul Milligan, CWA communications manager, said: “We are laying large diameter water mains in the area and also tunnelling underneath the White Cart Water and the sport grounds.

“It is important to us that we keep our communities at the heart of our business. Working closely with the community centre, I noticed first-hand the amazing work that Andy and his team do to serve the community and bring people together.

“I met with Andy to discuss ways we could support them and leave a positive legacy. I noticed that they had shirts and photos of players on the wall which led me to speak to my colleague Audrey Harrison whose daughter plays international football for Scotland.”
