Dandara takes on challenge to raise funds for youth charity

Dandara Scotland is putting its best foot forward and taking part in a 20-mile charity hike through the mountains of Snowdonia National Park to raise funds for vulnerable youth.

On Friday 15th September, the teams, consisting of members from both the Edinburgh and Aberdeen Dandara offices, will be joined by other groups from the country’s major housebuilders and construction firms in the Housebuilder Challenge, organised by the Youth Adventure Trust.

Teams of four to six people from each company will race against the clock and each other to complete the trek within the 10-hour timescale.

Those taking part from Dandara Scotland include project manager, Jeremy Claire and head of finance, Damian Sanaghan on team ‘Your Pace or Mine’ and technical & commercial administrator, Marnie Archibald on team ‘One Step at a Time’.

Following a last-minute withdrawal, Claire Bathgate, head of sales at Dandara Aberdeen, has also volunteered to be a part of team ‘One Step at a Time’.

Claire said: “I am delighted to be able to step in and get involved in such an important charity event. It may be utter madness to get involved so last-minute with such little opportunity to train, but once I set my mind to something I am determined to complete it successfully. Once the walk starts there’s no option but get to the finish line, I am sure team spirit, camaraderie and remembering the cause we are walking for will get us through!”

Lee Ogg, Dandara Scotland managing director, said: “This is a very tough challenge both mentally and physically and I am extremely proud of our teams who are dedicating their spare time in the evenings and at weekends to ensure they are fully prepared to take on this formidable hike.

“Last year our teams across the business raised an incredible £23,000 for the charity after completing a gruelling 32 km hike in the Peak District for Youth Adventure Trust. We hope everyone will dig deep for the charity, it does a tremendous job and has helped transform the lives of so many young people.”

Each team in the Housebuilders Challenge has pledged to raise at least £2,000 to support the Youth Adventure Trust. The charity helps vulnerable young people aged 11-16 unlock their potential through outdoor activities; its Youth Adventure Programme, which spans three years and includes three residential camps and eight activity days, is a genuinely life-changing opportunity, giving young people the chance to build resilience, develop confidence and learn skills that will last a lifetime.
