Holmes Miller embraces sustainability with Kirkliston school expansion

To be developed on a site adjacent to the existing Kirkliston Sports Centre, the Early Years building will provide accommodation for up to 128 x 2-4-year-olds with 16 places registered outside in line with qualitative requirement of Space to Grow. As well as the Early Years provision, a further eight classes and associated ancillary accommodation will be incorporated for Primary 1 and 2 pupils, to be constructed over two phases.

The practice said the design seeks to embrace its new sustainability charter in terms of performance and approach to design, utilising a fabric first approach to meet CEC’s net zero Targets. To address the complex phasing and site restrictions associated with a tandem build adjacent to a ‘live’ school, the design integrates several modern methods of construction including off site wall structures.

The full design team includes RSP Consulting Engineers, David Narro Associates, Currie & Brown and The Sterry-Walters Partnership.
