Tilbury Douglas secures five-year framework for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Tilbury Douglas has secured a new five-year framework with The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo to continue delivering the stadium for this internationally acclaimed event.

The new contract follows the successful delivery of the stadium for the 10th consecutive year in 2024, reinforcing Tilbury Douglas’ track record in safely managing high-profile, technically complex builds in historic and logistically sensitive environments.

Each year, the venue is constructed on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, one of the city’s most prominent landmarks and a major visitor attraction, requiring coordination with local authorities, emergency services and heritage bodies.

The stadium has become a recognised part of the capital’s summer events calendar, with this year’s infrastructure supporting not only the Tattoo from 1 -23 August but also a series of high-profile performances from major UK music artists. Tilbury Douglas’ consistent delivery has helped maintain the reputation of the Tattoo as a world-class cultural experience.

Barry O’Hagan, regional director – Scotland at Tilbury Douglas, said: “We’re pleased to extend our trusted relationship with The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Delivering this venue over ten consecutive years demonstrates our ability to plan and execute complex works in challenging settings, without compromising safety, quality or the visitor experience.”

Simon Butler, managing director – Building North and Midlands at Tilbury Douglas, added: “Securing another five-year framework is testament to the strength of our operational delivery, our understanding of the site’s sensitivities, and the skill of our teams who continue to meet demanding schedules year on year. We’re committed to supporting the Tattoo’s future success on a global stage.”

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo chief executive, Jason Barrett, said: “Thanks to Tilbury Douglas, our world-renowned Edinburgh Castle Arena will be all set to welcome thousands of spectators from across the globe once again this summer. There’s nowhere more iconic for an outdoor show, and we’re proud to deliver our successful events, in partnership with all our important stakeholders, year on year right here in Edinburgh.”

Each annual stadium build involves:

  • Over 760 tonnes of structural steel
  • More than 35 miles of electrical and technical cabling
  • In excess of 1,600 crane lifts
  • Close collaboration with local and national stakeholders

Tilbury Douglas’ role includes full project planning, infrastructure delivery, health and safety management, and close coordination with public access and security needs throughout the build programme.
