South Ayrshire Council's biggest housing project in recent years is set to get underway. 160 new affordable homes are to be built on the site of the former Mainholm Academy in Ayr. Starting this month, a mix of 1-,2-,3-,4-,5-and 6-bedroom properties will be built.

A 52-year-old construction worker was killed after an accident while working on a building site in Dumfries & Galloway yesterday. Police were alerted that a man had been struck by a falling mast at Hallmeadow Place at around 9.45am.
