Aberdeen school recognised in 'cladding Oscars'

Milltimber Primary School

Milltimber Primary School in Aberdeen has been shortlisted for a national award for its innovative use of fibre cement panels.

The school, which opened at Moneam Gardens in May, was delivered by main contractor Robertson Construction.

The 2022 Façade Awards UK was founded by Roofing, Cladding & Insulation (RCI) magazine and celebrates the achievements of façade contractors, manufacturers and suppliers who demonstrate an outstanding level of technical ability, an excellent quality of work, and showcase the superstars of the industry who have gone unnoticed.

The £16 million building is one of four new schools being built as part of a £100m investment by Aberdeen City Council.

It provides spaces for more than 340 pupils and comprises 14 classrooms and activity spaces for young people.

William Barlow, branch manager at Vivalda Scotland, which supplied the Equitone Tectiva fibre cement cladding used for the building, said: “We worked closely with Avtech Solutions in Dunfermline to provide a seamless facade solution that would fit into the project’s tight construction timescale.

“To achieve this, we fabricated the cladding offsite, cutting the Tectiva panels to meet exacting tolerances. In the end we think this partnership has created a stunning external shell for the new school.”

Designed by Scott Brownrigg, the school project team also included QS Faithful & Gould, structural engineer Fairhurst, services engineer TUV SUD and landscape designer Wardell Armstrong.

The live awards ceremony will be taking place on 4 November at The Midland Hotel in Manchester.
