Link Group completes £31.37m development in Leith
A new community of 199 people and families has been set up in Leith thanks to affordable housing developed by Link Group.
Construction of the £31.37 million mid-market rent development, which is located on Salamander Street, began in March 2019. Link worked in partnership with the Scottish Government and the City of Edinburgh Council and received £9.714m in grant funding from the Affordable Housing Supply Programme towards the project.
Colin Culross, Link Group commercial director, said: “Working with our partners, we overcame the challenges of Covid-19 restrictions to complete this development and are delighted to see the difference these modern, affordable homes are already making to people’s lives.”
Procured by Cruden Homes Ltd and delivered by Cruden Building Ltd, the development, which was designed to fit in with local surroundings, consists of one, two and three-bedroom homes and eight amenity properties.
In addition to a desirable location, tenants benefit from residents only parking and a secure, internal courtyard.

Salamander Street builds on Link’s ambitious plan to deliver 3,381 affordable, high-quality homes over the next five years. Since 2019, Link has completed three developments in Edinburgh and currently has two on site at Ferrymuir Gate in South Queensferry and Boroughmuir School in Bruntsfield.
City of Edinburgh Council’s convener for the housing, homelessness and fair work committee, Councillor Kate Campbell, added: “It’s great to see these brand new, affordable homes ready for people to move into, and in a fantastic part of the city where demand for housing is high.
“Building more mid-market homes is an important part of our strategy to increase affordable housing in Edinburgh.
“Rents for these properties will be lower than the private rented sector, which is sadly, becoming unaffordable for too many people. So, there is a critical need for more affordable homes – both social and mid-market.
“We’re responding to that through the commitment to deliver a programme for 20,000 affordable homes by 2027, in partnership with social landlords in Edinburgh.”
